3 Little Words

Since starting my fitness journey, there are 3 words that have kept me going, kept me motivated and helped me achieve what I have. These 3 little words are

Perseverance, Patience and Consistency. I know what all these words mean but I thought I would look up their meaning in the dictionary.


Perseverance - persistence in doing something despite difficulty in achieving success. Patience - the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, problems, or suffering without becoming anxious or annoyed.

Consistency - consistent behaviour or treatment.


The meaning of perseverance confirms my thoughts on keeping my motivation high. Even on the tough days when I wanted to stay in bed, eat my way through the day and finish the day off with a feeling of regret and why did I do that? However, I've changed my mindset and when I don't feel like working out, I do it anyway and I never regret it.


At the beginning of lockdown, I started working out everyday for a month to raise money for the NHS. By the end of the month, I'd got into the habit of working out so I carried on. I required lots of patience because I didn't notice a difference in my shape until the end of month 3. Well, I'd got into the habit of working out by then and also learnt that rest days are just as important as workout days. Believe me, rest days also require a lot of patience!!!


Consistency most certainly pays off. I remember the 1st time I did a full sit up. It crept up on me and I was so happy!!! These non-scale victories keep you motivated and help you to keep going. What you can't achieve today, with practise and consistency, you will get there.
